Ventilation System Installation Near Me in Taos, NM

Mechanical ventilation has become essential in Taos, NM homes built or renovated to modern energy efficiency standards. Tighter homes leak less air, which saves on heating and cooling but also means less natural fresh-air exchange. A proper ventilation system delivers controlled fresh air while recovering most of the heating or cooling energy that would otherwise be lost.

The two main ventilation technologies for Taos, NM homes are heat recovery ventilators (HRVs) and energy recovery ventilators (ERVs). HRVs transfer heat between incoming fresh air and outgoing exhaust air — useful in colder climates. ERVs transfer both heat and humidity, which works better in mixed or humid climates by preventing wintertime over-drying and summertime over-humidification.

Installation includes mounting the ventilator (typically in mechanical room, basement, or attic), ducting fresh air intake from outside to occupied spaces, ducting stale air exhaust from kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry to outside, connecting to the HVAC system or running independently, plumbing a condensate drain, and wiring controls. A properly sized system runs continuously at low speed, providing consistent fresh air without significant energy penalty.

In Taos, NM homes with tight construction, the ventilation rate often follows the ASHRAE 62.2 standard — typically 50-100 CFM continuous depending on home size. Spot ventilation for bathrooms and kitchen runs at higher rates during use.

For homes with indoor air quality concerns, allergy sensitivities, or just musty smells from inadequate fresh-air exchange, a quality ventilation install changes the indoor environment noticeably. Federal tax credits often apply to qualifying ERV/HRV equipment.
